What is Zaino?
Zaino is a synthetic polymer paint protectant. It can and SHOULD be layered with multiple applications to improve the protection and visual properties of the paint. It does not contain abrasives and thus you must first clean and prep the paint and then "lock it in" with the Zaino products. Here are the basic steps that should be done to get your paint looking great.
1.Wash the car with Dawn or Ivory dishwashing liquid to get rid of any of the previous waxes or cleaners off the paint. Rinse and dry.
2. (optional) If you have swirl marks on the paint, use the 3M swirl remover right now.
3. Claybar the entire car. To do this properly, you must work on small sections of the paint. Make sure that the area you are working on is ALWAYS wet. You can use plain water or water mixed with a little Z-7 Zaino car wash. Rub the wet section with the clay bar until the paint becomes clean and "buttery smooth". Make sure you fold the claybar over once it becomes dirty so only a clean section is used on the paint. If you ever DROP the claybar on the ground throw it out. The small rocks that bar picks up will cause swirls and scratch marks on the paint.
4. Wash the car with Z-7 car wash, rinse and dry. Your car is now ready for Zaino.
Zaino has two different polish products, Z-2 and Z-3. Z-2 is used for cars with clear coat on the paint. For cars without clear coat use Z-3. You also have a choice of using the Z-1 as a base coat primer for the Z-2/Z-3 or the newly developed ZFX flash cure accelerator which eliminates the need for Z-1, speeds up the curing process and allows to apply multiple coats in one day.
The Z-1 method.
With a 100% cotton applicator pad or towel use a small amount of Z-1 and lightly apply onto a section of the pain. On the top/horizontal sections of the car, use a front to back motion. On the side/vertical panels use a up/down motion. The above will improve the reflective properties. Once the car is completely covered with Z-1, start over at the beginning and apply Z-2 or Z-3 RIGHT ON TOP of the Z-1 with the same motions. That's it! Now you need to let the Z-1/Z-2 dry and haze. Drying/curing time will depend on temperature, humidity and how much product you applied. Typical drying time is about 4-6hrs. To check if the Zaino is ready to be taken off, rub a small section of the paint with a 100% cotton or microfibre towel. If it comes off easily and leaves the paint dry and shiny it's ready. If the Zaino smudges and still looks wet on the paint, it's not dry yet..
You need to wait 12 hrs before applying a new coat of Zaino using this method.
Each ZFX™ kit comes with a 2ml vial of accelerator mix and several 2-ounce mixing bottles. A single ZFX™ kit provides enough mix to accommodate a up to 16 ounces of Zaino. Pour one to two ounces of Z-2 or Z-3 into a 2-ounce mixing bottle. For each ounce of polish, add 4-5 drops of ZFX™ (no more than 10 drops for two full ounces), screw the cap back on, and shake vigorously for 60 seconds.
While you get your towels and applicators ready, allow the ZFX™ enabled Zaino to sit for five minutes so ZFX™ can begin activating the polish. Give the applicator bottle a final shake for 10 seconds before using
Apply Zaino enabled with ZFX™ with an applicator or towel. Use the polish sparingly. A small amount goes a long way, and you will be applying multiple coats. Squirt a dime size dab of polish on your applicator and rub it into your paint using circular hand motions. Then, go over the same area using a straight back and forth motion on top panels and an up and down motion on side panels. Allow the polish to haze for 20 to 30 minutes. Buff off the Show Car Polish residue with a high quality, 100% cotton, made in the USA, detailing towel.
You're now ready to apply your next coat of Zaino enabled with ZFX™. There's no need to wait. Simply follow steps 1-4 above one more time.
Apply no more than three coats of ZFX™ in a 24 hour period. For optimum results, use your ZFX™ enabled polish within 6 hours of mixing. Use a fresh cotton buffing towel for removal of each coat.
Optional Zaino products:
Z-5 swirl mark remover. This product is also NOT abrasive and only fills/masks swirl marks. The best way to remove swirl marks is to use 3M swirl remover or get the car professionally buffed.
Z-6 gloss enhancer spray. Used right after removing the Z-2/Z-3. Improves reflective properties and anti-static properties.
Z-7 car wash.
Zaino also has a line of products for leather, glass and tires.
Tips: Use Zaino sparingly. It works better if applied thinly and evenly in multiple coats. One 8oz bottle should last for about 15-20 coats.
Use only Large Bath size 100% Made in USA White Cotton towels. Cotton T-shirts are too small for polish removal and not as absorbent or fluffy as towels and most contain polyester. Certain towels; especially those manufactured abroad, although they say 100% cotton. They are not; they include a blend of polyester and nylon that will definitely scratch and leave swirl marks in your paint finish. The rule of thumb is to use high quality Brand Name large bath towels (Cannon or Fieldcrest) that say 100% cotton and made in the USA.
Remove any stitching, wash your Zaino towels with liquid wash detergent and don't use fabric softener on them.
You can also use microfibre towels instead of bath towels.
